SCBWC has been involved for many years with helping the Sunshine Coast Regional Council develop and maintain the Kirby Road Environmental Reserve at Obi Obi.

As part of their rejuvenation of the reserve the Council holds regular tree planting activities where the community are invited to participate. SCBWC have been invited to participate again this year.

"Look up and observe- What lives up in trees?" is this years theme.

Nearly 30 nest boxes have been installed in June 2025 at Kirbys ER to support glossy black cockatoos, gliders, microbats, and many bird species.  After the planting and a light lunch provided by council, there will be a presentation on nest boxes, wildlife and a demonstration on how to do nest box monitoring

This years goal is to plant 700 native species to enhance the natural habitat around the newly built carpark and recently installed nest boxes.

Registration will be via the Council Eventbrite link (so they know how many to cater lunch for) which Joe will provide to SCBWC participants once they contact him.

Agenda:

8.00-8.30 Introduction and morning tea

8.30 -11.45 Planting
