The Mt Ninderry Bushland Conservation Reserve covers approx. 150 hectares, while its peak, Mt Ninderry, is 304 metres above sea level. On this summit trail you ascend just over 130 metres (it does feel more though!) because – good news – the carpark start is high up on a ridge.

This 3km return hike takes you firstly along a wide graded slightly undulating management track before starting a reasonably steep ascent to the peak on a rough track with both rock steps and root intrusions.

We will stop along the way at a couple of viewpoints and take in the eastern scenic views to the coastline (including Mt Coolum) before heading over to the western lookout and finally settling at our sunset viewing point.

Sunset on this night is at 5.10pm, with the most colour being from 40 minutes prior and up to 20 minutes after. So anticipate that we could be at the sunset viewpoint for up to an hour - warm clothes and something soft to sit on is a must.

A great opportunity to share some drinks, nibbles and chats.

We will also have the Full Moon rising in the East at 5.14pm so once we have finished oohing and aahing at the sunset (hopefully!) we will put on our head torches and make our way back over to an eastern outlook for a quick Full Moon appreciation. And then back down the mountain at a safe pace. The only section of the hike that will be in darkness will be this return down the mountain - not a problem with good head torches.

If you have never done Mt Ninderry before/ have never done sunset on Mt Ninderry or just love Mt Ninderry - this is for you! It will not be a fast hike.

For obvious reasons this will be postponed if raining or heavily overcast.
